Another Weekend, Another Great Wedding!
K and I just got back from a whirlwind trip to Ottawa this past weekend to celebrate Tracy and Kevin’s wedding. The weather was very nice, cool but sunny, perfect for a breezy, tented ceremony on the grounds of the Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata. The evening continued with a very beautiful reception and dinner in one of the modern banquet halls at Brookstreet. Here’s our yummy dessert...

How to Be a Gracious B****
I’m not a huge fan of email forwards, but when I got this one today, I had to laugh - thanks OS for sending it to me! Jennifer’s wedding day was fast approaching. Nothing could dampen her excitement — not even her parent’s nasty divorce. Her mother had found the PERFECT dress to wear and would be the best-dressed mother-of-the-bride ever! A week later, Jennifer was...

Month 1: In Sickness and in Health
A Serbian friend told me that back in her home country, many people get sick after they wed, and all it means is that you have lived through the event fully. If that’s the case, I really did live through my wedding to the fullest! …I didn’t mention this in my wedding recap, but the other side of the story was that I was under the weather a couple days before the big day. I was...

Another Switch-Up
Yes, I am suffering from wedding withdrawal (and a lot of procrastination), and have just changed the look of the site yet again. I mean, who knows if anyone still reads this blog? Anyway, it’s all in preparation for an update and refresh of our photos page. ~sd

Married Life: A FAQ About sdK
The top three questions we’ve been asked since getting married: Where (and when) are you going on your honeymoon? Do you feel different (now that you’re married)? When’s the first baby coming? And our answers are: We went on a mini-honeymoon to Muskoka for a couple of days after the wedding. We enjoyed some true R&R, with K fishing off the dock of the boathouse B&B...

Wedded Bliss
We did it! And it was amazing. We’re so glad that people said they liked the food and that they had lots of fun. We did too, and though the day was long, it was relatively stress-free. The day included: My bridesmaids making Khiem prove his worth and love for me with some crazy games before the tea ceremony at my parents’ house - in which our groomsmen performed a convincing...

Congratulations!
It’s almost t-3 days to the wedding! Craziness. Well, before we get to that, we’d like to say a big congratulations to Khiem’s sister, An and her new hubby Chris. An and Chris got married last Sunday on the grounds of the beautiful Royal Ambassador. Both bride and groom looked great, and with a lake, gardens and a nice day, who could ask for anything more? (Khiem of course...

Matron of Honour
My little sister isn’t so fond of the word “Matron”. She’s married, but that word just makes her sound old. So what to do? I can’t call her  “Maid” anymore, so I searched online for some more youthful alternatives: Woman of Honour Lady of Honour Attendant of Honour Chief Bridesmaid The Supreme Being of Chickness Mrs. Wingwoman I thought “The...

It's the Final Countdown...
We’ve got just over two weeks to go and I just can’t get GOB’s theme song from Arrested Development out of my head: What to do… …other than continue to work towards finishing up our huge “Wedding To Do”! (Did you know that the checklist on the knot has 184 items on it? We’re down to 37 items to do before the wedding, with about 10...

Why We Make a Good Couple

Top Wedding Trend of the Day!
And here I was wondering how Khiem could possibly have so many friends… “A Tokyo company called Office Agents has a booming business in renting people out for a couple hundred bucks a head as wedding guests. It’s a popular service among those who want to impress their spouses with the number of good-looking, amiable friends they have. You can even rent a fake boss or colleague...

The Makeover
I hope you like the makeover - I wanted to unify the look of the regular blog site with the photo blog site as well as clean things up a bit, so I’ve switched over to another Tumblr theme by Michel Dacruz. I still like the photo template by Ben Delaney but it just didn’t work out for what I was trying to do. In other news, we had a fun engagement shoot with Dave & Charlotte at...

Some Assembly Required
The invitations have been printed (above image is a preview!) and we’re working on getting them out to everyone by the coming weekend. Lunar Caustic Press did a great job with the letterpress printing and thanks goes out to my sister on the beautiful design work. In an effort to be green, we printed the main invite on watercolour paper made of 100% cotton rag from Woolfitt’s and...

Cuba Photos!
I’ve posted some pics from the Cuba photo shoot. Aside from my very rudimentary modifications using iPhoto, we’ve not done any post-production on them yet…but I just couldn’t wait to show a sampling to you all :D Again, thanks to team Linda-Stan-Joanna for all your help getting this together. We’re so lucky to have friends like you! ~sd

May Updates: Back to Reality
We’re back from a great trip with our friends in Cuba, so stay tuned for some pics! In preparation for some snapshot sharing - and instead of working through that great mound of laundry strewn all over the living room floor - I decided to set up a photo blog using a cool Tumblr theme by Ben Delaney. There are a few random old photos of K and I up already so click on over and check it out! ...

Suddenly Nostalgic
I checked my hotmail account today - something I don’t do very often - and suddenly felt the urge to look through some of the old emails K and I used to send to each other. This is in the days before gtalk, when msn messenger was blocked from our computers at work, and also when we used to send long, heartfelt and sometimes very silly messages to each other instead of one liners like...

T - 5 Weeks...to Cuba!
As the familiar sight of snow disappears (we hope!) for another year, K and I are counting down the days to our pre-wedding, last-days-of-being-single, all-inclusive trip to Cuba. It sounds kind of like a week-long Jack & Jill party but it’s really just an excuse to go away for some fun times with friends before we have to kick it into super-high wedding gear. Besides, we apparently...

March Updates
We’ve updated the Out of Towners page with information about hotel rates! As for what’s going on in March… The month isn’t over yet, but it’s been a busy one. First off, congrats to D&V on their wedding in beautiful California - only I got to go have an awesome TFW in LA without K but I hear that he had an action-packed TFW in Toronto as well! March Madness...

Getting Things Done
Somehow November turned into February and we’re more than halfway to the finish line. Except that there was this huge invisible wall that rose up in the middle of the race that prevented us from really making any progress, but time was still ticking away. Maybe it was the snow - yes, in true Canadian fashion, I should blame it on the weather - or maybe it was just that we needed to get our...

The Farewell Tour
I’m back… It’s been awhile I know but the holidays did a number on me (as you can see from the picture below) and I’ve needed all this time to recover. It’s January and there’s only 6 months left before I make my vows.  I’ve officially kicked off Khiem’s Farewell Tour (KFT).  I’m not sure where this tour is going and what it’ll be doing...

Happy Holidays!
Hey everyone! Happy holidays. I can’t believe xmas is just around the corner and that 2009 will be upon us in no time. Apologies to our 5 fans that our recent postings have dropped off because “it’s that time of the year again.” In addition to a dismal showing of articles in December so far, we haven’t been doing much on the wedding planning front either, except...

Surprises
Do I like surprises? Yeah, once in awhile. I can even live through things like that time my best high school friends decided to set me up with an unforgettable birthday appointment with a helium-balloon-carrying-gorilla-suited-telegram-guy during lunch. Make no mistake, it was not a Saturday and I was not in the comfort of my own home; instead, I was in the cafeteria, that super clique-y place so...

Brooms in Trees
Khiem and I watched Rich Bride, Poor Bride yesterday. I’ve never actually watched a full episode, and this was the first time that Khiem and I watched the show together. I was a bit surprised because Khiem was actually the one who flipped to the channel. Apparently the football game was over and there was nothing else on tv - but I think it might have been because he wanted to watch a...

If it’s your first time here, welcome! Our blog’s been up for just under a month now so there are a few posts to read if you want to procrastinate and can’t find anything else to do. Have a look, leave a comment and keep in touch! In other news… Congrats to Khiem’s softball team for winning yet another championship this weekend. The team persevered in freezing cold...

November Updates
We’ve got some updates for you, but first, we want to send some good vibes to Khiem’s family dog, Muffin, who’s suffering from intervertebral disk disease. Get well soon, Muffin! Updates: We’ve updated the Bridal Party section with info about about our cute ring bearers. Sonia wrote a post about the cd favour we’re thinking of making the other day, but in the...

How I Met Your Mother
So truth be told, first impressions are overrated. This was apparently clear when I stumbled into Sonia in a drunken haze at a club called Havana on my birthday celebration (and oddly enough her birthday celebration as well) almost 6 years ago. I told her I’d like to hang out with her at a later date when I wasn’t falling over myself and could form coherent sentences. Now any person...

Music to My Ears
One thing that Khiem and I have in common is that we love music. It’s true that he added his snoring drone to one of Mozart’s masterpieces the first time I took him to the symphony (here’s a classic blog from Khiem about his symphonic experience); and yes, I am a liability when it comes to Cranium because I can’t hum or whistle tunes OR identify names of songs when others...

Playing House on Halloween
Despite all of Khiem’s crazy costume creations, we didn’t end up dressing up last night. We’ll just have to save those awesome ideas for next year (or not). What we did instead was pose as two homeowners giving away candy at our friends’ place while eating pizza, roasting pumpkin seeds and watching what would turn out to be a great Raptors home opener game against Golden...

The Birth of Our Blog
When we first explored the idea of having a website for our wedding, we really did not want to sign up with one of those typical wedding sites and have really cheesy pictures of ourselves and tell a cheesy love story about how we met and cheesily fell in love (I apologize to any couple who has done a website like this). Partly because Sonia is mildly lactose intolerant and partly because I am...

Lefties vs Righties
Nope, this isn’t a post about how Khiem wants to train all of our children to be lefties so that they’ll be the next sports superstars. (Don’t believe it? He’s already working on it with our friends Art and Flo’s baby Nathan!) More like I found a cool left vs right brain test that reveals Khiem’s left brain tendencies and my very right-sided ones. It kind of...

Late Night Procrastination
So I’m up late doing work and I was thinking about Halloween and weddings. I think one of the real big adjustments you make as a couple is no longer thinking in the singular. You have to start thinking as a pair. When I was single, Halloween was pretty easy. You think of a costume and you go out and buy/make one. As a couple, you need to collaborate and discuss and plan out...

In Response To Celine Dion
Every night in my dreams, I see you, I feel you. That is how I know you go on. That and the fact that you’re always hitting me in the head because of my snoring. One of the first tough decisions Sonia has to make when we get married is whether or not she wants to keep her maiden name. Here are the other options I came up with. 1) Hyphenation. If Sonia wants to sound regal, she could...

In Response to K's First Post
Hey, I’m no bridezilla! Anyway, I never thought we’d have a wedding website, but here it is, in all of it’s (hopefully un)cheesy glory. I’m sure Khiem will provide some interesting comments from a guy’s perspective about our journey to the altar while I go on about the romance. But I assure you, with Khiem by my side, I’d be hard-pressed to make anything too...

Wedding Blog Musings
So Sonia is a smarty-pants. She created this wedding blog. Hopefully in the year leading up to the wedding, we can update you guys with our trials and tribulations. Maybe we can save some people some headaches with their planning and at the very least we will provide you guys some laughs as we both stumble and stub our toes walking down the poorly paved path towards marriage. Please make sure...
