It's the Final Countdown...

We’ve got just over two weeks to go and I just can’t get GOB’s theme song from Arrested Development out of my head:

What to do…

…other than continue to work towards finishing up our huge “Wedding To Do”!

(Did you know that the checklist on the knot has 184 items on it? We’re down to 37 items to do before the wedding, with about 10 post-wedding items - yeah, I know - we still have to do more after the wedding??? Can’t we relax already?)

Anyway, with all those to do’s to finish, I’m happy to say that Khiem and I are finally back together, as his very long stint in Minnesota is finally done and done. They’re still trying to reel him back somehow, but without any good incentives, why should he return?

And…we’re super excited to have our car of choice for the big day - it’s a silver Mini Cooper convertible from Autoshare! Wish we could get the red one, but it’s booked already. I’m still checking the site periodically to see if the person who booked it decides to cancel. There’s always a chance - cross your fingers for us!

Other items we’re working on right now are our seating plan, programs and menu cards. So far we’re pretty happy with our on-site manager for the day of the wedding, Harvey Tam from Rovey Catering (we just had an excellent tasting dinner last week). He’s super organized and we’re sure that with him and my brother-in-law, Garvey coordinating the day, we and all our guests will have a wonderful time.

Now we’ve just got to make sure we’re organized enough to get everything else done in time!

Some Assembly Required

The invitations have been printed (above image is a preview!) and we’re working on getting them out to everyone by the coming weekend. Lunar Caustic Press did a great job with the letterpress printing and thanks goes out to my sister on the beautiful design work. In an effort to be green, we printed the main invite on watercolour paper made of 100% cotton rag from Woolfitt’s and wrapped it in handmade Japanese paper from The Paper Place. We hope you like them!

And this here is obviously Sonia’s costume. Don’t mind how the polar bear looks. That’s just what happens to polar bears when you have global warming. It’s time to seriously pay attention to the environment people! Anyhow, these costumes are so symbolic. For one, Sonia is very passionate about the environment and this here shows all the habitat the polar bears and the animals in the arctic are losing due to global warming. Secondly, Leonardo and the Titanic shows how care free it is to be single. Then when you get married, you run into this big giant unforeseen iceberg that sinks all your freedom and you’re left to freeze in some cold water while the woman gets to sit on the floating piece of wood while you’re waiting for the boat men and their flashlights to save you from freezing to death. But in the end you know you would totally give your life for this special woman you’ve decided to marry. Yeah I know, sometimes I can be a bit over the top with the romance.

The Birth of Our Blog

When we first explored the idea of having a website for our wedding, we really did not want to sign up with one of those typical wedding sites and have really cheesy pictures of ourselves and tell a cheesy love story about how we met and cheesily fell in love (I apologize to any couple who has done a website like this). Partly because Sonia is mildly lactose intolerant and partly because I am romance intolerant.

Our goal for this wedding is to be practical, environmentally conscious and to not go too over the top with the lovey dovey stuff because we reserve the right to do that everyday in front of your faces regardless of this wedding.

So how did we wind up having a blog/website for our wedding? It was mainly due to function.  Since we are trying to be green about our wedding (we’re bullfrog powered!) and we’re cutting down all our paper usage. We wanted the majority of our guests to RSVP online or by phone instead of sending them by mail. So that was the primary reason for this website. The secondary reason was a location for details about our wedding as people tend to toss paper invites into the garbage (please recycle our invites at the very least). The tertiary (yes I know you love that word) reason being that we’re really cheesy people at heart.
